PLEASE NOTE: unfortunately we are currently NOT recruiting to this programme for September 2011, please see our full course list for alternative courses.
Our Foundation Year in Informatics is designed to prepare you for a University of Bradford degree in any of the undergraduate programmes offered by the School of Computing, Informatics and Media (some courses may require additional qualifications). In doing so we aim to give students the opportunity to obtain a degree that they might not have had otherwise.
If, for whatever reason, you have not reached the requirements for admission to a three-year undergraduate degree course, our Foundation Year will help you bridge that gap. Perhaps you are returning to learning after some time out of education, or you need to build strength in areas unfamiliar to you that are required for entry to our courses, or your post-16 examination achievement was not quite as good as you had hoped.
Most of our undergraduate programmes involve the use of computers, and for the BSc and BEng programmes an understanding of mathematics is essential. The Foundation Year aims to enable you to develop the specific knowledge and understanding and the studentship skills necessary to successfully enter one of our BA, BSc or BEng degree programmes. Everyone who successfully completes our Foundation Year is offered a place on any undergraduate degree programme within the School of Computing, Informatics and Media.
The Foundation course lasts one year, and is full-time given over two semesters. It will equip you with a range of technical, intellectual, professional and interpersonal skills that will prepare you for degree studies on one of our courses from Computing, Creative Technology, Mathematics or the Bradford Media School. Successful completion of the course can gain you entry onto most of the degree programmes offered by the School of Computing, Informatics and Media, with the exception of BSc Computational Mathematics, which requires A Level Maths.
Four/five-year BSc (Hons) including foundation year
PLEASE NOTE: Many of our courses are available for part-time study over 4 to 6 years. Flexible part-time study routes are negotiated with students on an individual basis Please contact our Recruitment Manager for information.

If you are a mature student without any of the above formal qualifications you will be invited for interview with a member of academic staff to elucidate whether your previous experience and qualifications would be deemed to be suitable. This is done on a case-by-case basis.
