As the internet industry matures and new mobile communications come on stream this course aims to equip students with the key skills with which to steer the future of new media. People with such skills are in short supply. This is a broad-based course. It develops both your creative and programming skills as well as addressing important questions such as - Where has the internet come from and where is it going? What makes a design easy to use? How can we exploit the interactivity made possible by this unique medium?
As a Web Design and technologies student at the University of Bradford, you will study how to make interactive and animated web sites, learn how to integrate sound and video into websites and learn how to make online games. You will also learn key programming languages to enable you to create dynamically driven sites. In addition you will study media theory to provide you with a theoretical context in which to place your own practical work. The second and final years involve the production of web-based projects on an individual and group basis, building on work in the first two years. The focus is on real-world briefs and solutions, as near as possible to tasks which might be set by real clients. There are also opportunities to work on projects without a brief - using your skills and creativity to develop state-of-the-art web-based applications.
The Bradford Media School Web design and Technology course is aimed at the web designers, web developers and webmasters of the future, but the skills that you will develop in computing, interface design, information management, design and multimedia production, are appropriate for many careers in the new media and communications industries.
