BIOGRAPHY

I enjoy working within the School of Computing, Informatics and Media (SCIM) because it promotes the idea of a bridge between two cultures: Arts and Sciences. I occupy a deliberately trans-disciplinary space in research, media output and teaching.

I am interested in the practical application of critical cultural theory to the production of content and narrative. This includes video, but also interactive, cross-platform media delivered to different devices, in a range of contexts. This practice involes a study of lived environments.

I have developed practical Masters courses about content and applications for mobile devices, whilst supporting research into Bluetooth, Symbian, J2ME, messaging and Web-browsing technologies.

Outside my University roles, My hobbies include involvment in community environmental projects, books, film, walking and cycling. I'm a manager and partner of 4clubbers.net, a music social networking and editorial site that receives over 100,000 unique visits, monthly. I have been working with the Mobile Internet since 1998.

Current Projects/Roles:

"Ecoversity" Academic Pioneer: The University aims to be a beacon institution in its approach to Sustainable Development. My role is to engage students and staff in Education for Sustainable Development in SCIM through workshops, events and curriculum intervention.

Knowledge Transfer Projects: I am currently working with Aspire-I and Bluetree, on the development of advanced "Miway - life planning" software.

I have directed a Community Engagement animation documentary, and produced internal Websites like the Summer Placements website.

"At the Foot of the Uncanny Valley: the zombie and cultural anxiety" - paper being co-authored with Mondo film expert Mark Goodall

Range of papers produced on physicality, space and communications technology. Mobile learning, and sustainability feed into these themes.
